Opportunities for Prayer & Reparation
In a letter from Bishop Gregory Parkes to the people in the Diocese of St. Petersburg, he wrote: “Since the current sexual abuse crisis surfaced, I have been discerning ways that we as a diocese, and particularly me as your bishop and our priests, can offer prayer and penance as a means of spiritual support to the victims whose lives have been irreparably harmed by the heinous crimes committed against them. In addition, I recognize that prayer invoking the guidance of the Holy Spirit is also needed as actions are taken to ensure that this abuse, and the cover-up of abuse, never happens again.
Therefore, after consulting with the pastors and priests of our diocese, I am asking each parish to join me in offering opportunities for prayer and reparation between now and the First Sunday of Advent.”
At St. Patrick’s, we will offer the following special opportunities for prayer and invite you to join with us:
First Friday Adoration: On the First Fridays of October, November, and December, we invite you to join in communal fasting, and to offer an hour of Eucharistic Adoration for the victims of clergy abuse.
On the other Fridays of each month, the morning rosary will be dedicated to the victims of abuse, for their continued healing.
On Sunday, Nov. 11th, at 3 PM, a special Holy Hour with the singing of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy will be offered for the healing of all victims of clergy abuse, for their families and all who have suffered because of the abuse.
