My sisters and brothers in Christ. May the peace and joy of this Christmas Season continue to strengthen you and be grateful for the year past and pray for the Lord’s blessing on this New Year. Today we celebrate this beautiful Feast of the Baptism of the Lord and the conclusion of our Christmas celebration.
Fr Joe Robinson in his book entitled GUIDING LIGHT, has some interesting thoughts on the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord. The following are his comments: He said if we struggle to understand the baptism of Jesus, we are not alone. Even John the Baptist had difficulty understanding why Jesus came to him for baptism. As John said, “I need to be baptized by you and yet you are coming to me.” He continues to say that this feast is a mystery worthy of our contemplation. St John Paul II considered this Feast worthy of meditating on when he made it one of the mysteries in the new set of mysteries he created for the rosary: the luminous mysteries or the mysteries of light.
We can certainly reflect on the Sacrament of Baptism that we have received. It took away Original Sin, brought us into the family of God, made us children of God, and gave us the right to heaven. On the day of our Baptism, our Godparents and parents renewed their Baptismal Promises and made them for us. We have had many opportunities to renew these Promises of Baptism especially at the Easter Vigil and Easter Sunday. Today we have an opportunity to recommit ourselves to Jesus. Thank you, Lord, for loving us and keeping us in your tender loving embrace. God bless you.
Mis hermanas y hermanos en Cristo. Que la paz y la alegría de esta temporada de la Navidad continue fortaleciéndote, sé agradecido por el año que pasó, y reza por la bendición del Señor en este Año Nuevo. Hoy celebramos la maravillosa Fiesta del Bautismo del Señor y la conclusión de nuestra celebración de Navidad.
El Padre Joe Robinson en su libro titulado LA LUZ QUE GUÍA, tiene unas reflexiones interesantes acerca de la Fiesta del Bautismo del Señor. Sus comentarios son los siguientes: Él dice que, si luchamos por entender el bautismo de Jesús, no estamos solos. Juan el Bautista aun tuvo dificultad para entender porque Jesús vino a él para bautizarse. Como dice Juan, “Yo necesito ser bautizado por ti y eres tú quien viene a mí.” El continúa diciendo que la fiesta es un misterio digno de nuestra contemplación. San Juan Pablo II consideró esta Fiesta digna para meditar cuando la hizo parte de uno de los misterios en el nuevo grupo de misterios que creó para el rosario: los misterios luminosos o los misterios de luz.
Sin duda podemos reflexionar sobre el Sacramento del Bautismo que hemos recibido. Este eliminó el Pecado Original, nos integró a la familia de Dios, nos hizo hijos de Dios y nos dio el derecho al cielo. En el día de nuestro Bautismo, nuestros padrinos, madrinas, madres y padres renovaron sus Promesas Bautismales y las hicieron por nosotros. Las oportunidades que hemos tenido para renovar estas Promesas Bautismales han sido muchas, especialmente en la Vigilia Pascual y el Domingo de Pascua. Hoy tenemos la oportunidad de volver a comprometernos con Jesús. Gracias Señor por amarnos y mantenernos en tu tierno y amoroso abrazo. Dios te bendiga.
