My dear Sisters and Brothers, Pax et bonum (peace and good)! I greet you with the greeting that Saint Francis used throughout his life. As you may be aware, this year we are celebrating the 800th anniversary of what is being called the Easter of Saint Francis, that is, his Transitus (passing) from this life unto eternal life. For all Franciscans this is obviously a very special celebration. But Pope Leo XIV has given the whole Church a wonderful gift for this occasion. The Pope has declared a Franciscan Holy Year, or Jubilee, from January 10, 2026, until January 10, 2027. Though this Jubilee Year is addressed in a special way to the whole Franciscan Family around the world, it has been extended to all the faithful in the world. The conditions for receiving the plenary indulgence for this year (for oneself or for the deceased) are as follows: – Sacramental confession to be in God’s grace (eight days before or after). – Participation in Mass and Holy Communion. – To visit in the form of a pilgrimage any Franciscan church or place of worship dedicated to St. Francis anywhere in the world, where one renews one’s profession of faith, through the recitation of the Creed, to reaffirm one’s Christian identity. – The recitation of the Lord’s prayer, to reaffirm the dignity of children of God, received in Baptism. – To pray for the intentions of the Holy Father, to reaffirm belonging to the Church, whose foundation and visible center of unity is the Roman Pontiff. In his Second Life of Saint Francis, Friar Thomas of Celano wrote: “At last his hour came, and when all the mysteries of Christ had been fulfilled in him, he flew joyfully to God “ (2 Cel 217). May this eternal joy of Saint Francis be yours now, in this Jubilee, and throughout the rest of your life.

Mis queridos hermanos y hermanas, ¡Pax et bonum (paz y bien)! Los saludo con el saludo que solía usar san Francisco durante su vida. Como quizás ya sepan, este año celebramos el 800 aniversario de lo que se conoce como la Pascua de san Francisco, es decir, su tránsito de esta vida a la vida eterna. Para todos los franciscanos, esta es obviamente una celebración muy especial. Pero el Papa León XIV ha hecho un regalo maravilloso a toda la Iglesia con motivo de esta ocasión. El Papa ha declarado un Año Santo Franciscano, o Jubileo, que se celebrará desde el 10 de enero de 2026 hasta el 10 de enero de 2027. Si bien este Año Jubilar está dirigido de manera especial a toda la Familia Franciscana en el mundo, se ha extendido a todos los fieles del mundo. Las condiciones para obtener la indulgencia plenaria de este año (para uno mismo o para los difuntos) son las siguientes: – La confesión sacramental para estar en gracia de Dios (ocho días antes o después). – Participación en la Misa y la Sagrada Comunión. – Visitar en forma de peregrinación cualquier iglesia o lugar de culto franciscano dedicado a San Francisco en cualquier parte del mundo, donde uno renovará la profesión de fe mediante el rezo del Credo, para reafirmar la identidad cristiana. – La recitación del Padrenuestro, para reafirmar la dignidad de hijos de Dios, recibida en el Bautismo. – Orar por las intenciones del Santo Padre, para reafirmar la pertenencia a la Iglesia, cuyo fundamento y centro visible de unidad es el Romano Pontífice. En su Segunda Vida de San Francisco, Fray Tomás de Celano escribió: “Llegó por fin la hora, y, cumplidos en él todos los misterios de Cristo, voló felizmente a Dios” (2 Cel 217). Que esta alegría eterna de San Francisco sea suya ahora, en este Jubileo, y durante el resto de su vida.
