2nd Sunday in Ordinary Time

My sisters and brothers in Christ,
May the peace of the Lord be with you and your families! Last week-end we celebrated the Feast of the Baptism of Jesus and with this feast, our Christmas Season ended .We are now in Ordinary Time until we begin the season of Lent on Ash Wednesday, February 17th. You will notice that the color of the vestments now are Green. The color Green symbolizes HOPE. We live our Christian lives always in hope and so the majority of the church’s liturgical year is Ordinary Time.
Our first reading from the Book of Samuel speaks about a CALL. God calls and we respond but it is not always very clear or easy to respond to His call. Moses was not in a hurry to take on the job God was asking of him to do, even though the message came with unmistakable clarity.
Samuel kept hearing God’s call in today’s first reading but did not know it was God. It was his mentor, the high priest, Eli who helped him know God’s voice. We see in today’s gospel that God’s call does not always come out of the heavens but from another human being. God’s call sometimes disrupts our comfortable lives but if He wants us he’ll keep calling, like He did Samuel. By our Baptism, we have been called into a relationship with Jesus. We continue to pray for the grace to always be faithful to the call of Baptism as we strive daily to know, love and serve our Lord. God bless you during this New Year, 2021.
